Introducing: Arielle

No lie, I just came across her on LinkedIn, and something told me to search for the music, and here I am now, writing this.

The scene has been doing well of late, it’s looking healthier for our rappers, we even have a strong run of representatives for the women too. Unfortunately, whilst it’s allowing the veterans or the underrated to reemerge, it’s still quiet for the soul side, with it strangely being tougher (at times) for our R&B acts to breakthrough.

If we’re talking potential, then we might just have a woman break that barrier, as Arielle steps forward with that new wave. Her tone is unique, her style is current, blended with that sexy ol’ skool vibe, she’s able to deliver something refreshing. Introducing, Arielle:

There is definitely room for growth, but that just makes this an even more exciting prospect. The visuals may not entirely justify the track, but you get to see her beauty and presence, whilst I enjoy seeing a group of strong women doing their own thing, in comparison to the average objectified video-girl. Having heard some of her earlier material, the potential was evident with All For You standing out. There is a lot of versatility for her vocals, not just R&B, and we certainly have few producers who could really help take her artistry further. Definitely keeping an ear out for more of this wave, with her next visuals for Sauce on the way.

BIGZ – STARMAN

Since the release of the Flight Of The Navigator, Bigz has found himself in new heights as far as his credibility, FOTN was justification that the rapper deserved all the praise he receives (if not more).

Continuing on that success, his “royal flyness” brings you, STARMAN (EP).
10 solid tracks to further cement his place among the best.

STARMAN:

An emphatic intro to the EP, Starman has Bigz displaying the wordplay and flow with variety, switching up the flow beyond expectations as the verses progress, definitely a stand out on the project.

I JUST WANT THE PAPER:

This track has been receiving a lot of love from the listeners, the kind of beat that you cannot help but nod your head along to (or even get up and 2-step), with the Flygerian leader back on his fly talk, using an aptly chosen Biggie sample, this track creates a certain vibe that only the flyest will feel.

SLEEPING SATELLITES ft. WRETCH32 & SWAY:

Another stand out track, Sleeping Satellites is where Bigz holds his own against two of the best rappers in the country, on a deeper and more personal tone, the three artists add a contrast with their unique styles.
This track adds diversity and allows Bigz to show his ability via a different retrospective.

STARMAN is quite the offering as it is a FREE download, featuring G-FrSH, Wretch32, Sway, Selah, Baby Blue & more, consider this a Thank You for all the support he has been getting of late. Many people can argue all they want..but when it comes to ability and craft in regards to music, Bigz is one of the best.

No Hats No Trainers Cypher 2

After the success of the first edition, No Hats No Trainers bring you the the 2nd Cypher, this time featuring Dot Rotten, Calibar, Black The Ripper & Mz Bratt.

Dot Rotten kicked it off flawlessly, portraying his mind through lyrics effortlessly,

Calibar, one of the most underrated rappers in the UK, made no mistakes with this effort, balancing reality and his style with a smooth delivery,

Black The Ripper, considered by many a “potential legend in the game”, delivers another reality check with the upmost of confidence.

Mz Bratt took a stride over a lot of the male emcees with this cypher, personally i expected it, this leading lady spun a few heads with the content easily.

What i like about this cypher is that i don’t believe this was anybody’s best, but then i know their potentials, but without a doubt a great effort from each artist.

Lowkey – Something Wonderful

A man who uses his talents for the good, somebody who wants more from life than money and fame, somebody who wants to make a change, that somebody is UK’s own, Lowkey, one of the most gifted artists with his mind in the right place, here is his new single, the captivating, Something Wonderful:

Something Wonderful is quitely simply a beautiful song, it speaks for itself in volumes, it is an honest record (something you can always expect from Lowkey), it is a positive record and most of all it has a meaning, his ever-growing fanbase will love this as will new listeners. An ode to the female, Lowkey has come into more prominence recently and has not stopped to enjoy the accomplishments but rather work harder in order to acheive his goal, as a person he is humble and honest, I can only support and offer praise for such a person, especially when the music being created is so powerful and even comforting.

Having already topped the Amazon download charts, with Long Live Palestine, surpassing the likes of Jay-Z, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas in doing so, he has shown that you can still have a career and a following despite a lack of help from the media and corporates.

Continue to support the rightous rapper, as he continues to deliver quality and honest music.

Skepta – Bad Boy

Bad Boy is the new single from Boy Better Know’s self proclaimed ‘Microphone Champion’, better known as Skepta.

With this record, Skepta has provided an all-round anthem for a broader range of audiences, it sounds good on radio, sounds great in the club and even through your headphones, Skepta does not use any vocal enhancers, nor makes any major changes to adapt to a commercial sound, instead it is just a well constructed track that feels natural, with Skepta’s distinct style neatly fused into the track, it is no surprise why Bad Boy record has reached way over 200,000 views on youtube.

A lot of people will criticize and expect a more underground sounding Skepta, until those people put their money where their mouth is and actually purchase the records, they should expect this, even then I feel this is a great UK record, as if you cannot help but to sing along, I’ve always been one to deminish stereotypes and this song does that and happens to be catchy whilst doing so, definitely looking forward to more hits from Skepta as he continues this surge of good music.

The video is courtesy of Staplehouse with fellow North London artist Scorcher continuing upon his recent success as a Director, he really has come a long way in such a short space of time and this video fully justifies his credentials, along with the rest of the Staplehouse team, who help create a great visual for a potentially huge track.

M.I. – Hustle (Remix) ft. SAS

MTV Africa award winner M.I. reaches out to UK’s European representers, Eurogang’s SAS (Mega & Mayhem) for the remix to what is becoming an African classic, Hustle.

Mega & Mayhem have been consistant with the quality of their music, they were one of the earlier artists I tipped for success, this was back when I did not even write, I was just a fan, they went on to work with Dame Dash and there was talk regarding Dipset, but all that matters is that SAS are well respected both in the UK and in USA, that is a rare accomplishment, with this track the Flygerian brothers have now justified their reputation in Africa, a good look for the two, representing the United Kingdom with two honest and heartfelt verses, M.I. has a style of his own and you can tell why this song is such a hit, so combine the two and you have an even bigger record and another step forward in spreading unity through music.

Wiley – Take That (Official Video)

The track has been heavily rotated on radio and the video is doing the same on TV, having already gathered over 150,000 views of one video alone (there is this particular one which is taken from Wiley’s own Youtube channel, there are then two more videos courtesy of Universal and Island records’ Youtube channels).

The unique production is courtest of Chew Fu, who fuses Electro, Drum & Bass and Grime to create an edgy up-tempo platform for Wiley to step up a level, Wiley sounds as comfortable and in his zone as ever, Wiley’s lyrical delivery is Grime, sounding like he has a point to prove, whereas the structure itself is more suited for a commercial audience. A clever anthem, as well as a much needed approval to end the year with after this years chart domination from fellow Grime rooted artists Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder (who makes a cameo as Wiley refers to stryderman in the song) and Chipmunk, Wiley is more than an emcee, he has created a legacy in regards to UK urban music, with many strongly beleiving that Wiley should have been where Dizzee Rascal is a long time ago, however everything happens for a reason, each artist has their position, While Dizzee Rascal plays his role in diluting if not ending stereotypes, Wiley has helped build a large family of talent, continously bringing through new artists, such as recent Number 1 chart topper..Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder has always been tipped for success by Wiley himself, therefore I beleive many do not give Wiley the respect and acknowledgement he deserves, those who feel that he has fallen off, should listen to the lyrics clearly as he is speaking to you.

Wiley has stepped up the work rate and this is the first single from his forthcoming album, he has a new record deal, a new motivation it seems and definitely expect quality new music for a man who will forever be known as a pioneer in defining a sound that the UK can call their own.

The video, like the song is unique, it is has a dark essence to it whilst mixing lighting and colour to maximize effect and emphasis, the effects work well and overall Take That possesses an epic element, a track certainly deserving of support especially from the UK, if this record makes it to number 1, it will bridge the success of this year with the success to come in the next one.
